THE TAYLOR SWIFT PHENOMENON
Happy times for Australians
Pamela Rowe LPMAFA, FPMFAA
Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in Reading Pennsylvania USA. More than one record of her birth time is available, but my research has led me to believe 8:36 am EST is the closest. (Traditional Birth Chart Fig. 1, Cosmogram Fig. 2)
Taylor's natal Sun is in the 3rd (Leo) decanate of Sagittarius, denoting strength and leadership. It is placed in her 12th House, suggesting inspiration from the depths of her subconscious. Some may say from a previous life. The downside of this placement can attract envy from others. However many successful actors and creators share this placement.
The Ascendant or ‘rising sign’ is derived from a correct time of birth.
At 8:36 am on her birthday 8 deg. 13 min. Capricorn was rising on the Ascendant, with the planets Mercury, Neptune and Saturn rising in Capricorn plus Venus rising in Aquarius, all in the 1st house of personality, environment and early childhood.
This planet combination rising in the 1st house is quite complex, but extremely creative and nurturing.
Capricorn is a sign of dedication, hard physical work and business acumen. Capricorn rising people often tend to be late bloomers in finding the exact circumstances they seek for their life path, despite early progress.
Look at the 'Wow' patterns in Taylor's Cosmogram (above)
After birth our horoscope develop, and different parts are activated at different times. When viewing the popular method of Secondary Progressions, the planets and points move at the equivalent of one day for each year of life. In Taylor’s early life her Capricorn Ascendant degree increased by roughly one degree per year through her 1st House as it travelled over her natal planets.
At a very young age, under one year old, Taylor’s SP (Secondary Progressed) Ascendant conjoined her natal Mercury = active communicator, busy child.
At 3 years old her SP Ascendant conjoined her natal Neptune = increased intuition, awareness of musical and other sensitivities.
At 5 years old her SP Ascendant conjoined her natal Saturn = feeling limited or even unwell, a sense of loss, periods of shyness, withdrawal, desire to focus and work hard.
Because Mercury, Saturn and Neptune are conjunction and rising in Taylor’s natal chart it is an important factor in her life. At its worst the SP Ascendant conjoining Mercury, Neptune and Saturn can undermine the confidence and lead to health issues. At its best it can provide vision, plus the capacity to help and heal others. It is therefore not surprising that Taylor studied and wrote music at a young age and is an outstanding personality who nurtures and cares about the feelings of her many fans.
It is interesting that many medical practitioners have the Saturn/Neptune pattern in their natal charts.
The SP Ascendant changed zodiac sign and moved into Aquarius at the age of 20 years and then at 21years conjoined her natal Venus in Aquarius. This was a very important phase in Taylor’s life and described increased attractiveness, musical development, public life and romantic dreams.
Taylor’s natal 7th house of partnerships has the Part of Fortune and Chiron in the sign of Cancer, plus the Vertex in Leo. The 7th house describes the partner and conditions concerning the partnerships. Also a caring, nurturing, home loving partner, plus the attraction and romantic interest of many people. Chiron in Cancer describes the emotional wounding caused by another, but also the healing that follows.
The Vertex in Leo in 7th suggests that eventually a special strong and generous partner may alter the course of Taylor’s destiny.
Taylor’s natal Moon is conjunct Jupiter in Cancer, which suggests that she will always attract many people who love her and that her success on a large scale was highly likely.
I was surprised and impressed to hear that Taylor wrote songs about the different experiences or ‘Eras’ she went through as her path unfolded. An original and creative expression of these variable influences.
The planetary ruler of Taylor’s chart is Saturn which is conjunct Mercury and Neptune and opposition Chiron. I believe that Taylor has discovered a very positive expression of this pattern with her ‘think positive, move forward and ‘shake it off’ expressions - very rare in a person as young as Taylor.
For those a bit more astrologically advanced Figs. 3 and 4 show a tri-wheel and Cosmobiology tri-dial for Taylor’s natal chart, secondary progressions for her first Australian concert in Melbourne plus the transits for soon after the show commenced, close to when Taylor appeared for her 3 hour 44 song show. A few of the activating factors are listed below, however there are many more.
Fig. 3 Tri-Wheel Secondary Progressions
The transiting sign of Leo is starting to rise (= strength, leadership).
Transiting Venus is conjunct Taylor’s SP Venus and within orb of natal Venus (= love and great beauty).
Transiting Mercury is conjunct Taylor’s SP Moon Node axis (= karmic connections).
Transiting Sun is square natal Mars and Taylor’s SP Mars is conjunct Taylor’s natal Sun (= dynamic energy, well expressed, good vibrations).
Fig. 4 Cosmobiology tri-dial
Natal Ascendant = Mercury/Jupiter (positive communication) is activated by SP Mercury/Jupiter and transiting Moon conjunct Midheaven.
Natal Pluto/Vertex/MoonNode axis/Moon/Uranus = is activated by SP Moon/Jupiter and transiting Mercury square Uranus = happy emotions and excitement by large groups of people.
Natal Venus/Midheaven = transiting Mars/Pluto, Part of Fortune = Venus/Ascendant = powerful love feelings, transforming energy.
Keep in mind that Cosmobiology is a specialized branch of astrology that uses the patterns generated by the charts to assist in the interpretations.
Taylor’s songs have struck a chord with fans of all ages, even the very young fans, who through Taylor’s ‘Shake It Off’ song have learnt to accept people as they are and “shake off” any disappointment others may generate. Perhaps we now have an era of mini philosophers.
The Declinations
When viewing Taylor's natal chart we must not overlook the Declinations. Leigh Westin's excellent article "Declination Dynamics IV" in the May 8, 2024 edition of 'Today's Astrologer 2024" published by the American Federation of Astrologers, Inc. states that the planets and points which are very close to 23 deg. 26min. North or South Declination and 0 deg. 0 min. North or South Declination are considered 'out of bounds', reinforcing my own view. Leigh stated that these positions are power points", suggesting "a greater height in ability, ambition and execution of action' -- impressive comments, especially when viewing Taylor Swift's relevant Declinations which are :-
Neptune 22 S 06
Saturn 22 S 26
Jupiter 23 N 03
Sun 23 S 10
Ascendant 23 S 11
Uranus 23 S 37 -- All close to the 23 deg. 26 min. N and S power points
Plus her natal Pluto at 2 S 11, which is fairly close to the 0 degree S power point.
At the time of Taylor's first Australian concert the transiting Mars S declination was activating her natal Uranus, Ascendant, Sun and Jupiter declinations, supporting and emphasizing the extraordinary energy she generated at that time. It is also interesting that the transiting Mars declination is once again activating this group in September and December 2024, with September being a reflection and reassessment time and December a more energizing period for her.
Transiting Neptune S declination conjoins Taylor's natal Pluto S declination power point in March and again between late October and late December 2024, which could coincide with a higher than usual level of publicity and public discussion. Also within herself increased sensitivity, mysticism and creativity. (See the Declination Graph below Fig. 5)
There is so much more to Taylor’s chart, including additional secondary progressions, solar arc directions and transits for her first Australian concert in Melbourne, which would fill a book, but I have concentrated on a few of the important factors in her developing natal chart.
Our friend, Astrologer Murray Beauchamp has checked out Taylor’s chart using the Lunar Saros Cycle. His findings, under the genre of "Evolutionary Astrology", will be presented in his forthcoming second book.
